Would you still enjoy a FPS without the "standard" health/shield regeneration?

No issue with not having regen.

I loved shooters BEFORE regen, I just love them MORE with regen.

Makes them flow more with regen, and they move at a quicker pace progression wise.

I remember playing the fuck out of Doom and Quake 1/2 and CRAWLING through the game making sure not to lose too much life, or stray too far away from health packs I find, just in case.

I find the shooters more fun now, because I can focus more on actually PLAYING the ghame as opposed to worrying about dying. Even though I still die.

As to MP. That would SUCK if they took away regen, but at the same time, it would also be good too. It would prevent cowards from being able to run and hide in order to regen, which is a good thing, but the way people play these days, it would actually encourage camping even MORE.

Which is NOT a good thing.

So no, don't take regen away from MP. They need to discourage camping, not encourage it.

We clearly have different perspectives here

I love the creeping forward with caution taking it slow and not storming forward. I hate run and gun FPS games.

Now with that said I don’t call Doom 1 and 2 or Quake 1 and 2 slowpaced games. Plenty of run and gun in them, good thing to not have regen which forced you to slow down at times.

That’s why I liked games like OFP or Red Orchestra where more or less 1 hit you are put out of action.

Well everyone's got there own taste obviously, I like the slow stealthy-ish approach, but if the fire fight is intense it kinda keeps ya on your toes trying to shift from different covers and safe spots and taking in that good shot...

In this day and age with developers trying to make their games as realistic as possible there should be neither health packs or regen. I'm not really up on my current conflicts but last I heard no military presently has either method available to them.

You don't fight well on morphine (if we talk about realism).

In the "realistic" FPSs that are out there you actually don't die most of the time, you are put out of action (which is equivalent to being killed in most computer/video games).

Left 4 Dead has PEELZ you can pop for temporary speed and knockdown resistance.

Though I'm sure swallowing and digesting pills isn't the fastest way to get that stuff into your system.

For some reason I don't like Left 4 Dead, maybe is because I don't have online and that makes the game feel shallow, I don't know

Yeah, online co-op is the whole point of the game.
