Default Was it really necessary?

OK. Not trying to bash or question the viability or usefulness of PS Move.

One question though.

Was it really necessary to use light within the visible spectrum on the wands?

I have my thoughts but I'd like to see if this seems odd to anyone else.

The reason its within the "visible spectrum" as you put it, is so the player can use it for visual cues, kinda like how the Wiimote has audio cues on its controller that are within the audible spectrum

If it used colors that were invisible to the human eye, it would make that aspect useless more or less.

Doesn't jive. PS Eye can detect infrared frequencies. Why not just replace the received infrared signal with a 'visual cue'(on screen)?

In which case, the distracting glowing orbs are eliminated from your controller. Even if the orbs are not distracting. What purpose do they serve that an infrared signal could not have?

in ether case it's kinda ironic how some Sony peoples where saying how silly the wii mote looked when it 1st came out then they more or less copy it and place the one thing that makes it even goofier than the wii mote could ever be.

It is. It is also obvious now that there is a market for those 'goofy' wave your arms around Wii games. They are lucky in a way that the PS Eye was available for this task already and that they didn't have to start from scratch.

...but

I feel they went about this implementation incorrectly.

I guess its the same reason that games have more or less removed life bars, they want a less busy HUD, because that is supposed to be more immersive. Not saying I disagree with you, Im guessing that's part of the philosophy, that and appealing to the casuals that want to wave around that colored orb

In that case, they didn't have transmit the infrared signals to screen if the game didn't require it. This would alleviate the HUD.

I know you were joking about the casuals waving the colored orb around but in seriousness, there's no reason why they couldn't have been turned on and off or even detached for when you don't want them.

I dont mind them that much honestly, my main problem with it is the SIZE of the damn thing. It really doesn't need to be that ridiculously big.
