Well my console of choice is simply the PlayStation 3. Capable of running multiple OS's, ripping nearly all media from discs, has blu-ray, has motion sensing, has everything you need to have a complete Media Center. It doesn't need a computer to be there for support when you can't take data off a disc *cough* 360 *cough* Hell, it can be your COMPUTER so it is god. Xbox 360 is good, Wii is good, but the PlayStation 3 will become the future. Games are only beginning to unfold. It isn't fair to judge them right now for PlayStation 3 has only been out for nearly half a year. Xbox 360 is excellent for gaming and hooking up with friends online. Wii is excellent for parties and just simple fun. PlayStation 3 is excellent when you want to do it all. It's online service doesn't show you what your friends are doing like 360's but it's online is free. I've played on it and it doesn't lag nearly as much as 360. When I say 360, I mean it hasn't lagged nearly as bad 360 has while playing Gears of War, Lost Planet, or Fight Night Round 3. The only bad thing about Sony's online is the time it takes to find an opponent, which is like 15 seconds at the most so it really isn't that bad considering online is free. If you look at the PlayStation 3 as expensive you are obviously not looking at what your getting. Blu-Ray players are alone $1000+ and your also getting a 60gb hard drive, motion sensing, and a computer (basically). So that is my reason for choosing PlayStation 3 and my console of choice.
