Peace Walker = Metal Gear Solid 5 for all intents and purposes.

I'll explain why though.

Metal Gear Solid games that deserve a "number" should be Kojima fronted projects, they should be part of cannon. Portable Ops doesn't deserve a number because it wasn't a Hideo Kojima game outside a producer role. Peace Walker is a full MGS game with full Kojima input and that's why it deserves the "5".

I don't understand why they're making this on the PSP though. It has literally no advantages over PS3, besides portability.

Not only does it have no advantages, but it is also much worse than the PSP. Just doesn't make sense. Seems more like a sony money grab idea to cash in on their shitty portable.

It has the advantage of being cheaper to develop for, allows the MGS4 team to get a game out before starting another console project and Kojima hasn't done as PSP game yet.

Release dates, no US date yet

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Releases On May 28...In The UK - G4tv.com

Quote:
Konami has announced that Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker , Hideo Kojima’s PlayStation Portable entry in his acclaimed action-stealth series, will be released on May 28...in the UK.

No word yet on when Peace Walker will land stateside, but at least now MGS fans have some kind of time frame to go by, especially in light of Famitsu’s reveal (via CVG) on Tuesday that the game will be released in Japan on March 18.Peace Walker serves as the direct sequel to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and finds Snake in Costa Rica in 1973, witnessing the rise of Outer Heaven and participating in countless acts of 70s-tinged badassery. Sounds like good times to me.

Although psp has been grossly outsold by DS, it still has a large install base. That said im not sure what percentage of that install bas actually 'purchase' games for the system :X.

Even if I bought this game, having only played (and still not beaten) the first MGS, would I even be able to understand any of the story?
