Default Biggest Nintendo DS Cart Ever Made Developed For Studio Ghibli Videogame

Original Sound Version Blog Archive Biggest Nintendo DS Cart Ever Made Developed For Studio Ghibli Videogame

Quote:
That’s right, and it’s all to make room for Joe Hisaishi’s fully orchestrated soundtrack for the game. According to the latest issue of Nintendo Power, Studio Ghibli is teaming up with Level 5 to create an RPG titled Ninokuni: The Another World for the DS, and Studio Ghibli music man Joe Hisaishi is on board to write a fully orchestral score, which also sounds like a first for the DS.

A special high-capacity cart had to be created to make room for the soundtrack, coming in at over 4GB, which is apparently the largest cart ever created for a DS title. While not much is known about the game, from what we’ve seen, it of course looks quite beautiful. I can’t wait to hear the game’s score, as most of us here at huge fans of Joe Hisaishi (see our Ponyo, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, and Ghibli concert reviews).

Are you looking forward to hearing Hisaishi’s score? Are you surprised that they’re going all out and developing a high-capacity cart specifically for the game?
4GB!

Storage doubles every 24 months or so.
This even more true for solid state storage, since Moore's Law is about transistor count.

Sony missed an opportunity when it went with the slow, awful, evil, power hungry and evil UMD (Universe Mass Destruction?).

To prove I'm not being trollish, I was always suspicious of optical media and considered them to be inherently evil. Regardless of the whatever devilish abbreviation is used to refer to them.

All optical media is slow, evil, awful and make an awful sound when being spun!

I hope cartridges make a comeback in consoles! Or digital distribution takes off and I never have to buy an optical disk ever again!

Now, I can Win my argument against all the loosers who said FFVII - IX cant come to DS because of space. If only they'd look at the size of a DS cart vs SD cards. omg what 32gig max??

Hmm, interesting implications....

On topic, sort of, I love the Ghibli movies, and hope some of the charm will translate well into a game. Fully orchestrated sound? Why not, but no biggie for me.

Now that's an interesting point FFVII was three disk of max 800mb, which would only mean 2.4gb, but then you throw out the duplicate data on each disk. That would leave the SE with atleased double the space of the original to play around with. They'd get even more space from better compression on the FMVs even if they used the Upgraded demo one they made. There isn't an excuse any more why it wouldn't work.

For reference purposes FF7 is a 1.32GB download on the PSN store.

It does. The cutscenes in the trailer are absolutely beautiful and very recognizable as Ghibli animation/character design.

There is a headphone jack for a reason.
