Its not so much that Nintendo are threatened by the quality of the games Im sure with Apple (given that most Ipod touch/Iphone games are inferior to full retail games that can be enjoyed on the PSP or DS) but the pricing (despite the inferiority, there's still plenty of good games, and even the most expensive ones weigh in at a fraction of the cost of a DS game). Hopefully this means Nintendo will more aggressively utilize the DSiware, and make it more clear to the consumers that the option is there.

just to be clear, since the syntax in this article is fucking awful 1. Nintendo are telling their staff to consider their 'battle' with Sony to be already won (yeah like we didn't know that 3 years ago) 2. Apple are the enemy of the future (complete truth, apple are terrible and i can see them failing in epic proportions very soon) |

Well, they're right but theres nothing they can do about it. Apple's devices are just better suited for casual gaming. They also don't carry the stigmata of a "video game machine". I can't come to work and then bust out with a DS or PSP. Thats just how it is. Might be ok in Japan, but here in the US, its not.

Well Nintendo thinks the Wii qualifies as a current Gen Console, were as its actually a last gen console with a gimmick aimed at a different market with huge success. Apple can be a threat to Nintendo's Marketshare, however it should not effect the ps3/360 marketshare

The reality is, Apple is providing a high end product for $199 when its competition are providing 5 year old tech for $169, and Apple annually update its hardware and brings the price down. Sure it is all about the software and not hardware, and the iPhone OS has lots of high quality titles that sell for a fraction of PSP and DS games, plus everything else it can do that the others can't do as well or at all. The only weaknesses are lack of hardware buttons and first party developers, and that doesn't seem to be stopping Apple. Nintendo is safe, with all their IPs like Super Mario, Pokemon, Zelda and Kirby that Apple has nothing that compares to, but then again Nintendo's IP didn't help them against Sony in the mid 90s, but innovations like the Wii is what helped them win back the market. This upcoming E3 Nintendo will show off the 3DS and the future of Nintendo really hangs on it. Sure things might go unexpectedly and Sony comes back with a PSP2 that prints money, or Microsoft pulls off an Apple and dominates the smartphone gaming market with Windows Phone 7 and Zune HD. The handheld market is where the future lies, in a generation or two, handhelds will become so powerful we wont need home consoles anymore. At home you hook it up to a TV, and when you leave your house you can continue gaming while on the road.
