I dare you to tell me what song on the NES is better than this: YouTube - Best VGM 423 - Journey to Silius - Stage 2 (Underground Concourse) This is THE BEST SONG I think I have ever heard from an NES game, and I will explain why: 1) The use of instruments. It is SO well done, this song sounds like its from a Sega Genesis or Super Nintendo game due to how well they were implemented. Due to the Limitations of the audio hardware, most NES games only utilized 1 or 2 instrument sets. sometimes 3. Also, most songs in an NES game at loops that range from around 15 to 30 seconds long. This game utilizes more instruments in a single track than anything else I have heard, allowing for a complex song that is rarely achieved on the NES. This song has instances of up to 5 instrument sets simultaneously, which I think is technically THE MAX that the NES can do due to having only 5 audio channels total, though usually 3 is the most you'll hear in a game due to the limitations on the chip. 2) This is one of the longest songs ever to appear in an NES game. The only song I can think of that is longer is the stage 1 theme from Cheetahmen 2, clocking in about 4 minutes. However, that song utilizes only 3 instruments total, less than this one, and technically it repeats itself at the 2 minute mark but makes it seem like its not by removing 2 of the 3 instruments and playing the same melody that it did for the 1st part of the song, and this one manages to be just shy of 4 minutes, clocking in at 3:40ish. Basically, one of the few songs on the NES that actually has a long enough length to be as long as a song you'd hear on the radio. 3) The drum and bass tracks used here are dynamic, the composer didnt stick to just using simple, repeating beats on a short loop with no real variation, but used stuff that you would expect to hear in said radio songs. 4) A catchy melody. A lot of NES games have that, but that's pretty much a required thing for the best NES song to ever have. However, there are multiple catchy melodies. 5) The quality of everything just sounds good, no annoying sounds. It just sounds so damn epic. Oh, and dont even bother posting songs from a Nintendo made game, basically all of them are 30 second loops that use 2 instruments at most usually. If you have one though that even comes close to the quality of this, post it.

That's pretty dang awesome. It blows my mind that I can crank the volume and not have my eardrums blown out by ringing sounds that many songs use. The bass and drums are really what make this song amazing IMO, you do not hear that on other NES games. I don't know what other NES song can compete with it in terms of the overall sound quality, but this thread'll probably turn into a "my favorite NES music" thread. Gol dang. Some of the other songs in this game sound like they should be in Mega Man X or Sonic the Hedgehog 2. |

Im sure someone out here can post a song that can contend to this. This isnt the only good music from a Sunsoft game, all their music was awesome, I just found that Journey to Silius had their most ambitious compositions IMO. And Fester's Quest probably has the weakest, although the music in that game was still pretty good.

Duck Tails - The Moon is definitely a top notch NES Songs. That's all you got though guys? BTW Drooger, most of the music on the first TMNT game isnt that good, its fairly weak by Konami NES standards IMO.

The rest of the game may not have great music, but that intro tune is a true 8-bit classic.

Konami has done better on the Gameboy of all platforms. YouTube - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan - Stage 5 + Ending + Credits 5:40 Back to NES games, here's one of my favorite tunes, clocking in at over three and a half minutes. YouTube - Mother 1 (EarthBound Zero) Music - The End |
