Well this sucks, but this better means Microsoft is gonna give us more slots for our friend list, as that was one of the reasons they kept the old XBL around still is because if they added more friends lists it would have broke it probably.

I'm pretty sure there's something like 1000 people online in Halo 2 on average, depending on the day/time. I hope some new features will come of this, not just an extended friends list.

Im not sure what else old XBL was affecting new XBL. Friends lists is pretty much one of the primary things.

This is pretty fucking wrong.

Based on my understanding of how Live works (which I NOW know is obviously VERY limited) how the FUCK do you 'cancel' Live for the Xbox?

If it's P2P then in theory, what are you 'cancelling'? One of the benefits of P2P over Servers was the fact that in theory, you could play someone online in 20 years as long as they were online and ready for a match.

I clearly have NO idea how Live works then, but this decision is fucking stupid.

I don't think Live is P2P, I think you need to connect to servers, thus making it client/server and not P2P.

Live DOES use servers, its not solely P2P, the servers used for XBOX 1 matchmaking are probably either being decommissioned or will be used for 360 matchmaking instead. However, in most games, one the game is initiated, that's when it takes over as P2P.

I don't really think it's a terrible decision, I mean, there isn't a significant population playing on it anymore.

i think the point is that some people who have paid for certain XBL originals more specifically Halo 2 can no longer play it

Not only that, even the DLC is no longer accessible.

I just think this is a strange decision.

Something is going to happen out of this, mark my words. Someone will go to play Halo 2 in a fews year via System Link or something, and they won't be able to access all the maps because Live isn't online anymore or something, and they'll chuck a fit, sue and win.
