Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited Go to Home | Dungeons & Dragons Online to sign up to play for Free, theres no cost to download the actual game so the download is free too, and go to the Orien server, that is where I play. Not sure if you guys are too familiar with this game, but DDO originally launched about 4 years ago. I bought the game during launch week back then, and lets just say... it wasnt very good. It had some interesting ideas, but it was buggy, laggy, and was simply not better than mediocre. Anyway, the game has been free for a while now, for about 8 months or so, and my bro and his friends have all started playing, so I figured I would give the game another chance. They improved it immensely on all fronts, its even better than WoW in some aspects. The graphics and user interface and ease of play have all gotten a facelift, its now better looking than WoW IMO, it runs on virtually everything (the minimum requirements on the graphics card front is a freakin Geforce 2 for crying out loud ) but scales up well to look very pretty on a rig that has beefy hardware. It does all the MMO staples you expect like PvP, Guilds, Parties, Raids, etc but D&D style. It has a brilliant level up system, a "beginning of game" that is actually fun to play (the beginner quests arent the typical Kill X number of enemies, find X number of items, Deliver X item to X person), multiclassing, and a brilliant way to make money from the game. Instead of requiring you to pay a monthly fee to play like most MMOs, you play for free, and can either sign up for the VIP program (Which is the usual 15$ per month setup), or you can make one time purchases of DDO points to spend at the DDO store, for a large variety of things, including better beginning characters, unlockable classes, races, quests, weapons, stat buffs, etc. But anybody can buy stuff on the DDO store even without paying, because the game has a system called Favor, which is more or less your reputation in the game world, as it increases, they will give you small allotments of points to spend on the DDO store as you see fit, so if you spend your points wisely, and play enough, you can get access to basically everything that paying customers do. And the store gets new items fairly often, and will have sales and all that good stuff. ---- If you decide to check out the game, look for Taregon, that is my Level 4 Rogue, and I will help you out.

Ads by Google is so smart. You make a thread about this game and it provides an ad for the game.

The PS3 web browser doesn't seem to be compatible with Adblock Plus.

Sounds nice. I'm not into the usual WOW-type MMOs, but I might try it when I have free time (aka Sunday or Monday probably). Do I need to know anything about D&D mechanics or "lore"? In other words, should I know what that 1x16 d1 stuff from Knights of the Old Republic meant, or that the Gorbachofs and the Yatagarasu clan have been at war with each other for 1337 years? Oh, and, are there solo quests or is it pretty much all parties? I don't always feel like getting a group together to do a quest... | |

You can solo a lot, at least in the early parts of the game. When you create your character, the game will suggest the best classes for soloing. Also, you can buy hirelings which are AI companions that help you out and flesh out your party ranks, though the AI is a little stupid sometimes, I dont really have any complaints wit hthe AI except sometimes they get in the way when I try to loot stuff. And you dont really need to know D&D rules, about the only thing you really need to know is what stats affects what skills/modifiers. Its not too complex, you can figure all that out if you spend enough time in the character creation, but there's quick options in the character creation too, where you can just pick from 3-4 preset builds and it will set the skills and attributes and feats optimized for that. Also, a lot of D&D staples like memorizing spells, having X number of spells per day, etc. are all simplified into just having an MP system, makes it easier to those that aren't familiar with the rules that want to do a magic class. And like most MMOs, you really dont need to even pay attention to the story, as long as you complete the quest objectives you win. One thing to keep in mind though, you dont earn experience unless you complete a quest, though some are fairly short.

There we go, NOW that banner ad showed up on this page. Guess it took it a few page loads to wise up. Cool, thanks for the info, I'll go try it next week. |
