Default StarCraft II release date announced

StarCraft II Wings Its Way To Liberty This July - StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty - Kotaku

July 27th!

Quote:
Blizzard isn't in the habit of handing out game release dates until they're good and ready, so when they say StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will be hitting store shelves worldwide in late July, they damn well mean it.

StarCraft II is possibly the most eagerly anticipated real-time strategy game in the history of the genre, and now that anticipation has a white-hot target - July 27, 2010. That's when the game will start hitting retail stores around the world, including the United States, Canada, Europe, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Mexico, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.
Is that a wide enough release for you?

"We've been looking forward to revisiting the StarCraft universe for many years, and we're excited that the time for that is almost here," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "Thanks to our beta testers, we're making great progress on the final stages of development, and we'll be ready to welcome players all over the world to StarCraft II and the new Battle.net in just a few months."

You might want to start lining up outside your nearest retailer now.

StarCraft II beta to end on May 31May 17th, 2010 @ 21:35
By Johnny Cullen

The end’s in sight: the first phase of the StarCraft II beta will end on May 31, Blizzard’s announced.
However, it did add on its official forums that it will bring it back online a couple of weeks prior to the game’s release on July 27.
The downtime is due to “some hardware and software configuration changes in preparation for the final phase of the beta test and the release of the game,” as Blizzard’s put it.
“We’d like to thank all of our beta-test participants for your enthusiasm, dedication, and valuable feedback during the beta test, and we look forward to hearing more of your thoughts on the StarCraft II beta test as the game’s July 27 launch approaches,” it further added.
Go get pre-ordering, then.
StarCraft II’s getting a simultaneous release on July 27 in Europe, South Korea, and North America, with two expansions planned about 18 months apart – Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void.

what happened to the whole "different releases for every race"? I guess Activision must have thought it would backfire... or is it the expansions they're talking about here?

Ya. Still 3 separate games or "expansions" with only Terran campaign in the first game.

people are gonna kill me for this but....

played beta.... didnt like it.... infact iv never liked the CORE game of blizzard games.... there built around finding the "easy" win tactik and rushing it... you either play the one predetermined style or you lose.... if someones faster at mashing the keybinds than you, you lose thats it...

beta proved to me that this is exactely the same in starcraft two... even more so especialy with the current rampaging zerg cockroach rush, buying it simply for the custom gameplay modes that map makers will make.... aka tower defence, hero arena, DoTA that where all made in warcraft 3 (also a game i never touched anywhere near the ranked matches) you know stuff thats actually fun....

good thing to see what i mean

Koreans like MMO's that require you to grind.... aka doing the game thing constantly over and over again hundreds of times learning a set pattern that you will repeat in the game untill you get your next armor set... then you start all over again in a new area

Koreans like starcraft.... an RTS game where you use the same tactik over and over again hundered of times learning a set pattern that you will repeat in the game untill you get you next rank... then you start all over again in a new ladder....

yeah sounds fun dont it...

I know what you mean.

I love StarCraft. I used to play quite a lot on battle.net right after the first game was released, but after a while the game was overrun by people who were simply fanatical about it. I'd be building up my base, pumping out a few units and they'd show up on my doorstep with a giant army.

Online competitive StarCraft is all about APM, I don't have the uber-micro to compete with that.

However, it's still a very well balanced and fun game to play with or against friends. And the highlight of the original StarCraft, for me, was the excellent paced campaign and great story.

Im pretty much with Drooger on this. Starcraft is more of a "play with friends" type game, or play around with the custom map stuff. Not something I would just play with random strangers that are all about exploiting certain tactics.

I have found Blizzard's Warcraft games to be more balanced overall. I think the inclusion of having 3 sides instead of 2 in Starcraft kinda hurt its balance some. There's a reason there's a 2 party system, and not 3 party system, in America... because its more balanced.

The party system is absolute shit.
