Ditches the hub world for oldschool map

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Omits Hub World In Favor Of Traditional World Map - News - GameInformer.com

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Omits Hub World In Favor Of Traditional World Map

We first speculated on it last month, but now it's confirmed: Super Mario Galaxy 2 will abandon the hub worlds featured in the plumber's other 3D adventures in favor of a traditional world map. Shigeru Miyamoto explains, "You can think of it in terms of something similar to Super Mario World or New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where you will have a rather convenient map to navigate."

He continues, "We want players to focus on the joy of the action instead of getting to each game course. We wanted to make it as accessible as possible and as easy as possible for the players. Also because we’re going to incorporate a number of different stars and conquering all the stars is going to be one of the most challenging missions for the player, we want them to understand as easy as possible where they should go next and which places they should go back to in order to get access to the remaining stars."

How do you feel about this? Were you a fan of the hubs in Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy, or are you partial to the more streamlined process featured in Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. Wii?

Good, the hub world was terrible in Galaxy. (and Sunshine and 64 to lesser extents). This is straight to the action, no messing around.

Really? I always kinda liked the hub worlds in Mario... and Galaxy's had one of my favorite pieces of music in the game.

I liked messing around in the hub worlds in Galaxy and Sunshine, but I'm fine with a world map as well.

To me, the hub worlds are just glorified map screens anyway. I like to go straight into levels, rather than finding the level and then going into it.

Hubs are fine for messing around with and learning the controls but after your first 5-10 minutes of playing they just slow the game down and become unnecessary.
