they add content that i never use...yet i still pay the yearly/monthly fee...well mostly just the year sub.

Same here - I haven't even downloaded the apps to use FM.com or FB or any of that.

I like Pirate's idea of a 3-tier model, but they know nobody would pay for that other nonsense.

So I went on neogaf to see their inflated reaction to this - and just as I thought there are like a thousand replies already. A lot of "thanks MS for helping me decide on whether or not to renew."

I mean, I'm not saying increasing the price is a good thing in any way, but GAF'ers make me chuckle. They overreact to absolutely everything.

The thing is, Microsoft need to justify their online costs and once you have the online element down, adding on crap is the only way to go forward with it.

Why not offer something usable, like cloud storage for saves?

It just strikes me as counter productive to raise the costs for the service, but not make any massive changes to said core service pretty much since NXE.

Well, they're adding ESPN3 for free and all that Kinect functionality.

Whether or not that justified the increased rate, I dunno - but they'll probably point to that as being the reason.

Regardless of what reasons they give to "justify" the increase you know the only reason they raised the price is because they know that while people will complain about it most will still pay the extra. Besides, they could add dozens of new features and it wouldn't matter because online multiplayer is the only reason the majority of players will continue to fork over whatever MS wants to charge.

Sony has to be loving this though and assuming that Nintendo is paying attention it will at least remind them that online play is possible on a gaming system.

Meh....I am a bit surprised that they went up when PSN is free......

Doesn't effect me tho since I have never once paid for XBL XD

We'll still pay because in reality the increase is peanuts. But, yeah, all that extra stuff is a bunch of nonsense that not many really care about.

Except the video stuff... I see a lot of people on my friends list watching online videos through their 360s.

Technically it's not peanuts. $10 isn't a huge amount but that does represent a 20% hike in price which is a substantial increase, so it just depends how you want to look at it.
