Default MS Increases the Price of XBL!

Beginning November 1st, for most people:

Price change for Xbox LIVE Gold subscription - Xbox Live's Major Nelson

Quote:
I wanted to let you know that as of November 1, 2010 we are increasing the price of an Xbox LIVE for some members. This price increase only affects Xbox LIVE Members in Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom or the United States.

US

Current
1M Gold: $7.99
3M Gold: $19.99
12M Gold: $49.99
Starting Nov 1, 2010
1M Gold: $9.99
3M Gold: $24.99
12M Gold: $59.99
UK
Current
1M Gold: 4.99 GBP
Starting Nov 1, 2010
1M Gold: 5.99 GBP
Canada
Current
1M Gold: $8.99 CAD
Starting Nov 1, 2010
1M Gold: $9.99 CAD
Mexico
Current
12M Gold: 499 Pesos
Starting Nov 1, 2010
12M Gold: 599 Pesos

Unless listed above, there is no change in any other subscription packages.

Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.

However, we do want to thank our loyal members and give you the opportunity to lock in your current price with an additional discount, so now would be a good time to renew your subscription.
This doesn't make much of a difference to me, but I'm sure there are plenty who will get their panties in a twist.

It sucks, though. Figured they'd be lessening the price rather than raising it! Hopefully they'll add more than just better voice support in the next update.

Edit: Seems most people's 1-year price is still safe, it's only the US folks seeing an increase there. It's if you pay monthly in other countries where you'll have an increase.

Halo Reach must have a month free trial and Black Ops is out in November.

Makes perfect sense.

It's true - I'm one of 'em. It's a pisser, but $10 a year, which isn't even $1 a month, isn't exactly going to break the bank.

I just hope this means a bunch of new and cool options.

See, this right here is my issue with it too...

Sky Player (UK) and Netflix/ESPN are nice options and all, same with Facebook, Twitter, last.fm and all that nonsense but I'm NEVER going to use these things.

Why can they not do a three tier system?

Gold being premium, everything at the $60
Silver being online gaming features at $30
Bronze being the current silver

I have no doubt the majority would have silver accounts.

Woooooo Canada doesn't get the shaft (for once) on 3-month or year subscriptions.

I'm glad the Euro price didn't go up at least, but for the rest it's a bit of a dick move.

Also, people who pay full price for Gold are suckers. There's enough deals to be found in stores and online. I've never paid full price for a 12 month subscription.

I'm a sucker. I just hand MS my credit card and let them do with it as they please.

I can't complain, though - I use XBL more than I do my cell phone, and I pay about 15X more per month for that plan than I do XBL.
