HOLY SHIT! is all i can say.

Stronghold Crusader is one of my all time favorite games (as many of you who idle the irc probly know) and from the looks of it, Firefly Studios learned from their totally botched up game Stronghold 2. that we liked the old way of doing things and didnt really care too much for moving into the 3d realm of rts and all the special jazz that comes along with it.

so what they have done is basically made an old time RTS gamers dream come true. SCE is effectively the same game it was in 2002 mechanics and graphics wise (boo hoo graphics whores, Crusader got a 6.0 in graphics from ign in 2002, and this game has the exact same, so GTFO if you cant deal with it)

what they DID change, however, was the combat. Crusader itself was on a fairly big scale with a maximum of around 1000 units (thats pretty big, especially in 2002). so what they are doing is basically taking that, and multiplying by 100. thats right, TEN FUCKING THOUSAND TROOPS GETTING SHOVED DOWN YOUR THROAT!!!

this game is going to be one of the most frantic rts games of all time, so be prepared to be utterly overwhelmed by the fucktons of enemies coming at you.

oh the subject of the actual gameplay (now that ive calmed own a bit)....the game is an RTS, castlebuilder hybrid with some seriously detailed mechanics. this game really does make you take care of every minute detail of making a medieval economy, but in a way that doesnt seem daunting or tiring, as once you get it set up, its pretty self sufficient. i would go into detail all the steps necessary to make something like a crossbowman (its seriously like 15 steps if you dont cheat and use the market) but NPD is going to be up any minute and i really have some HW to get done.

on a side note, this is music to my ears for another reason, i had just recently beaten Crusaders entire 80map campaign for the 2nd or 3rd time and i was really starting to get so good at it that it wasnt as much of a challenge as it used to be...

im pretty sure almost no one here has played any of the stronghold games, but let me assure you, all of them (except stronghold 2) are VERY solid games that are VERY addicting. i think you can pick up Stronghold, and Crusader + its extra campaign and maps from the bargin bin now for like 10 or 15 bucks. seriously get these games people.
